Camping With Toddlers

Raystown Lake - Featuring Beautiful Country!
Is My Toddler Ready For Camping Yet?
My husband and I decided that this year was the best time to start camping with our two toddlers (23 and 36 month year old). We were both apprehensive at first, but so far it has turned out to be a blast!
If you plan on hiking at your first toddlers camping experience, it might be best to give your toddler to Grammy or invite her along to babysit at the campsite. However, camping with toddlers at a State Park can make many good memories that will last a lifetime!
Things To Think About Before Taking Your Toddler Camping
- Is The Camping Area Safe For My Toddler To Play In? Some campsites are in rocky forest areas while other are not. Some are right on the waterfront, while others are not. For instance, Little Pine State Park in Pennsylvania wouldn't be my husband and I's first choice with camping with toddlers. The State Park is located Tiadaghton State Forest in the Appalachian Mountain Area. The camping area is very steep and rocky. It is a great place to go hiking, but not a safe place camping with toddlers.
- Will My Toddler Be Able To Handle Sleeping In A Tent Or Camper? Before we took our toddlers camping we exposed them to a tent and a sleeping bag experience at home.
- Do I Have Enough Toys To Entertain Them While I Set Up Camp? I think this was the most difficult part of the whole camping experience. Having a great supply of entertaining toys will be most helpful when camping with toddlers.

Our Experiences Camping With Toddlers
- Our first experience camping with our toddlers happened at Raystown Lake. We live about 40 minutes away from this beautiful lake. Infact, I think it's one of the best places to go camping with toddlers in Pennsylvania! It's a nice wooded area, with many fun and safe playgrounds.
- Our second experience was at Gifford Pinchot State Park. Gifford Pinchot State Park also has lots of nice campsites and nearby beach and playground for the children. We went swimming in the morning and evening and loved it!
Raystown Lake and Gifford Pinchot State Park are clean and family oriented parks.
